A Sweet Life - Helping Children with Diabetes in El Salvador be Happy and Healthy
Working with Asocacion Salvadoreña de Diabeticos,
headed by Dr. Cerritos
We are bringing Health, Happiness, Empowerment to Children with Diabetes, born in poverty in El Salvador.
Since 2004, with Fundacion Manos Del Sur in Miami
The project is no longer on the website since we completed it.
Why this project: People with Diabetes are the most under-served population in terms of awareness and terms of health education and medical assistance.
Kids can be happy and healthy only if they and their families receive proper education and treatment. If the children are not adequately treated, the result is severe: amputations, kidney failure, blindness, heart failure, and other debilitating symptoms.
This project helps with the purchase of treatment, insulin, oral medicine, and medical supplies. Treatment is contingent on the kids and families receiving education by ASADI, the Diabetes Association.
This project included a team of caring people: donors in El Salvador and abroad, volunteer doctors, educators, and the children's families. The children's group have all grown up and are now taking care of themselves.
